Coding with AI

Claude Code Bootcamp

AI didn't just bolt autocomplete onto your editor — it changed what writing software is. I run hands-on bootcamps that get you past the hype and actually building this way, on your own code and the work you actually ship. Come as one engineer, or bring the whole org.

This isn't a fad to wait out. AI engineering is here to stay.

Patrick van Staveren

I'm Patrick van Staveren — an independent technology consultant, and the person who actually shows up to teach — whether that's you on your own or a room full of your colleagues. There's no agency behind me and no bench of junior trainers. You get me.

I've spent over two decades building software and leading engineering teams, and I've gone all-in on coding with AI — every day, on real codebases, on work that has to ship. I've hit the walls, found what works, and learned which habits stick and which ones quietly waste your time. That's what I teach: not a vendor demo, but the way I actually work.

I'm not here to sell you a tool. I'm here to make you confident and productive with these tools, and honest about where they still fall short.

Bootcamp Offerings

Two formats, one philosophy: hands-on, immersive, and built around how you actually work. Pick the depth that fits — and if neither quite does, tell me and I'll build something that does.

How Fast This Happened

I've watched this play out in real time. Here's the short version:

February 2025

The term "vibe coding" is coined

May 2025

Claude Code and OpenAI Codex first released

November 2025

Opus 4.5 released — the month I stopped hedging and went all-in

Now

AI Engineering is a core competency, not a nice-to-have

Why I Think This Matters Now

🔄

A Layer of Abstraction

AI isn't code completion anymore or cute code editor plugins. It's a layer of abstraction — huge leverage for the Engineer who embraces it.

🚀

Rapid Prototyping

Iterate faster. Find out if your ideas are what your customers want by building the first version faster. Get prototypes in front of stakeholders in hours, not days or weeks.

⚠️

Existential Risk

An existential threat to any business that isn't making AI engineering a core competency — and a real career risk for any engineer who sits this one out. Your competitors are already investing in this.

🤔

Change Is Hard

Software Engineers are split on whether these tools are good for software craftsmanship. They need guidance from business leaders. Teams and working processes need to reshape around this technology.

Outcomes

👩‍💻 What You'll Walk Away With

  • Hands-on time with real AI engineering tools — I teach Claude Code, and it's what I use myself
  • A dedicated stretch of focus on a genuinely new way of working
  • Muscle memory for AI-first development workflows
  • A clear sense of when AI helps and when it gets in the way
  • If you're coming as a team: everyone level set, on the same page

📊 If You're Bringing a Team

  • My honest read on how ready your engineering teams are for the shift that's already underway
  • Red flags report on major risks and challenges
  • Clear roadmap for continued AI adoption
  • Measurable before/after on team velocity and confidence

Let's talk

Tell me where you are today and where you want to be six months from now — whether that's just you or an org of thirty engineers. I'll tell you honestly whether a bootcamp is the right move, and if it isn't, I'll say so.
